To keep on with the Behind the Scenes series of blog posts I've been doing, it seemed fitting to do a post on how I use my products.
Not everyone can see how Simple Apothecary's handcrafted remedies may fit in on a typical day for themselves. Or in the instance of this video I posted to YouTube, how I use my products for a not-so-typical day. More importantly, it lets you see behind the scenes into how my own products make it possible for the business of Simple Apothecary to give back to the community.
Keep Doing What You Love
My childhood was filled with volunteering. This was something my mom was adamant about- you ALWAYS give back to others, regardless of where you are in life. This lesson has stayed with me, carrying over into my business.
One way my company does that is through the Adopt A Highway program through the California state transportation system, known as Cal-Trans. People, businesses and organizations can "adopt" portions of highways and freeways. Four to six times a year, that portion of road is cleaned up of litter by the adoptee and anyone they recruit, while the state provides safety training, supplies, and removal of the trash bags.
Oh yeah, and if you're driving north on Highway 99 you'll see my sign as you cross into Tehama County in Northern California.

This means the state gives Simple Apothecary hard hats, trash grabbing tools, gloves, safety goggles and of course, trash bags, to do this task. I let them know when I plan on completing the job, and they come and haul the trash away.
Hard Work Ahead!
While I really (I swear!) actually enjoy picking up trash along Highway 99 in Tehama County, it's HARD WORK. My adopted portion is 2.4 miles long, so when you look at zip-zagging the extended shoulder out to the fence line along with the fact that you have to do a round-trip cleanup, I'm looking at close to 5 miles. The distance walked is made harder by loose gravel, steep hills, LOT'S of yellow star thistle, dust, and sweat.
After a recent cleanup, I had a startling inspiration: I literally am able to do what I love because of my products.
Seriously.
How I Use My Products
I posted a YouTube video explaining exactly which products I used to get through a recent roadside cleanup. Now while those days are not a "typical day" for me, you can get an idea of how I use my own products to get things done.
I'm not just making and selling my products- I literally depend on them to get me through any given day. Even if my business closed up shop tomorrow, I would still be making them for myself.
So Let Me Know in the Comments
I'd love to hear from you which Simple Apothecary products let YOU keep doing what you love!?
