After almost 25 years in social services, I knew I needed a drastic change. Like so many others joining the field I started with a profound sense of wanting to help people. I finally came to realize however, that I had given so much to others at the expense of myself. A phrase I had found years before struck me with new relevance and helped me begin on a new path- healing begins within. If I was to continue to help others, I had to finally start with myself. Being able to define my own work life with the flexibility of self-employment was necessary for this change.
Simple Apothecary is the result.
I spent years making a THC based topical cannabis salve for myself, friends and family. Through countless trials and variations I found a combination of essential and infused oils that made it much more effective than either the cannabis or oils on their own. Once hemp derived CBD became legal, an obvious route opened up for me.
A key aspect of my determination as a business owner was to be a better business owner. Having a strong sense of ethics is a cornerstone of Simple Apothecary, which is a challenge as a female-owned small and independent business. The CBD market and cannabis industry male dominated and quickly becoming a sea of large corporations. It is important that Simple Apothecary can be counted on to give back to others as much as the products already do.
Goals
The goal of Simple Apothecary is sustainable growth, rather than pure profit. I know I have an outstanding product in relEASE 250, with a formula that actually works. My salve is made with quality ingredients, packaged beautifully using sustainable materials, and delivers what is promised on the label, all while at a reasonable price. I know I have some unique products as well, such as my Funk Off! Cream Deodorant & Antiperspirant (and so much more) that no one else has. I have virtually no overhead and absolutely zero debt which has made staying open during an international pandemic possible.
My strong determination has made for some unique challenges and very strict budgeting, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I want this company to afford me the opportunity to help myself AND other people at the same time. That is exactly what is happening.
Is it easier doing business this way? Nope. But then things that are worth it, like real change- and healing- never is.
