Product Spotlight: Funk Off All Purpose After-Shower Cream

Product Spotlight: Funk Off All Purpose After-Shower Cream

With the heat of summer here, it seems appropriate to revisit my blog post spotlighting Funk Off All Purpose After Shower Cream.

I think Funk Off! is perhaps my least understood product. Unlike relEASE 250 Hemp CBD Salve, or Kink Away Magnesium Cream, the name Funk Off lacks the self-explanatory aspect in some ways. What does Funk Off even mean? What the heck is body funk? It can be challenging to describe everything it’s good at in a product description, so I’m going to do it here instead.

How Funk Off Came to Be

Funk Off started as a rash cream. I had a friend that developed a horrible fungal rash in his groin area while working as a firefighter. Even after changing careers, he dealt with that fungal rash frequently, especially as he continued to work outside in the heat of summer in Northern California.

This product probably took more experimentation than any other one I've sold. I lost track of how many versions I made. Either it didn’t do the job, or the texture was off… it took a LOT of trial and error. But then, I got an excited phone call.

It worked.

Body Funk Beware

That returning rash would leave the sensitive skin in his groin area painfully red and raw, with a sticky, stinky dampness. My new cream applied onto clean, dry skin stopped all of that. Literally overnight the skin was almost back to normal. Even better, when he used it after he showered, he stopped having the issue altogether. So, it was actually preventing the rash from coming back. I squealed with glee.

But there was more.

The rash had spread up into his armpits. He used my new cream EVERYWHERE and to his relief, everything felt better. The peppermint essential oil gave it a cooling sensation in addition to a light mint scent. He also realized an unintentional side-effect. It turned out my new cream was an excellent deodorant AND antiperspirant. WHAT??!? I passed out several jars to friends to try, encouraging them to experiment with it.

“It gets rid of my body funk,” was the report from one friend. It gets rid of what? Body funk, she repeated. “You know how all your creases get stinky and nasty? That’s body funk and this gets the funk off.” Okay, then.

Funk Off it is. A funny name for an amazing cream.

The Star of the Show

I want to really highlight one ingredient in particular that makes Funk Off work as well as it does. Non-nano zinc oxide. Yup, the same ingredient used in natural sunscreens for sun protection. It is a very common mineral found in the earth and has been used for its medicinal qualities for thousands of years.

Zinc-oxide is antibacterial and antimicrobial, and even helps to combat fungal infections. It works against the bacteria feeding off sweat, making it an excellent and safe deodorant. Its even been proven to work better than aluminum chlorhydrate. You know, THE aluminum people are avoiding in deodorants.

I use USP grade non-nano zinc oxide in Funk Off. This means a) it’s acceptable for food, drug, or medicinal use. And b) it has large enough particles to stay on top of the skin, making it a great skin protectant. That’s why its used in natural sunscreens.

If you’re sensitive to baking soda on your skin like I am, zinc oxide is a better alternative. I love baking soda in my tooth powder, but it led to itchy rashes in my armpits. Zinc oxide doesn’t just take the place of baking soda as a deodorant. As an ingredient in Funk Off, it also soothes that type of inflamed skin as well.

Who it Works For

Funk Off works on body funk for almost everyone. Whether you shower after your job or before your job, it works. If you play hard or work hard, it works. From going to festivals and concerts, to just dancing in your living room or playing video games, IT WORKS.

My customers use Funk Off for their jobs as desk jockeys, tow truck drivers, electrical linemen, long-haul truckers, arborists, teachers, and real-life cowboys. Their interests that require Funk Off include going to raves, festivals, golfing, concerts, belly dancing, cycling, running, triathlons, horseback riding, rock climbing, geo caching, D&D, and camping.

Take the smaller tin of Funk Off backpacking to save weight as its all-purpose abilities take the place of multiple items. Burning Man? Funk Off is your best friend. Coachella? Wouldn’t want any othuh!

So what is it actually GOOD for?

I know, lets get to it. What does it DO??!? Obviously Funk Off makes a great deodorant and antiperspirant. It’s hard finding a natural deodorant that works as well as Funk Off because it will actually last all day long. Many of the ingredients contribute to its natural ability to handle odor from bacteria.

What’s harder to find is a natural & organic antiperspirant. Funk Off helps tremendously in reducing your armpit sweat, but it’s not going to stop every bit of it. I’m glad for that as I believe sweat helps to remove the toxins in our body. But I also don’t like armpit rings if I’m not working out. Funk Off is a happy medium.

But this is where Funk Off really stands out... Its ability to work EVERYWHERE ELSE on what I can’t help but call, body funk. Seriously. My customer started calling Funk Off, “Duct Tape in a Jar” because it fixes almost everything.

While I can’t recommend Funk Off be used for all these things or to prevent them from coming back, I will share the list of everything my customers have said they use it for.

  • Cuts
  • Scrapes
  • Minor burns
  • Heat rash
  • Helping to heal major burns after treatment from a health professional
  • Sunscreen in a pinch
  • Underboob sweat and rashes
  • Underbelly sweat and rashes
  • Bug bites
  • Sunburn
  • Jock itch
  • Athlete’s foot
  • Dry patches
  • Butterfly rash from lupus
  • Minor rashes
  • Hemorrhoids

I probably forgot some, but you get the idea. As I said, duct tape in a jar.

It Sounds Too Perfect!

Nah, even duct tape has its limitations. What is Funk Off generally NOT good for? Be cautious of using essential oils or products with essential oils in them if you’re pregnant. Odds are good it would be just fine, but I would prefer you speak to your health provider first.

Also, eczema. Every once in a while I have a customer it’s worked successfully for, but most say it doesn’t. Worse, the peppermint oil can act as an irritant to a current eczema patch, so be aware. I hope to release a new product in the next year that will specifically be for eczema.

Let me know if you've tried Funk Off All Purpose After Shower Cream yet!
